Saxophone finds a new breath in the hands of Norwegian musician Bendik Giske, who invented a new way to generate sound from it, by swaying with his instrument, tapping it, blowing into it translating movement into sound. Thanks to an intricate mechanism, every motion is recorded and amplified by a combination of microphones mounted on the gold tinted surface.
In 2021, Giske unveiled Cracks, an intimate 5-track record released on Smalltown Supersound. Delving into thematics of vulnerability and brought about by the production of André Bratten this work of sonic creation is sure to bring your inner emotions on the edge.
We met with the artist minutes before his performance in Mangha Museum as part of Unsound Festival 2021 programme. This interview was conducted by David Bola and captured by Kachna Baraniesicz & Maciej Karnaś.
*We are Europe has been a cooperation project financed by Creative Europe between 2015 and 2021.
