Europe Creative is the framework programme set up by the European Commission to support the cultural and audiovisual sectors. It is currently being renewed for the period 2021–2027 with a 50% increase in its budget, which now stands at €2.4 billion. The new Creative Europe programme will continue to promote Europe’s cultural and linguistic diversity and cultural heritage and to ensure that its creative sectors remain competitive in a globalised world.
At a time when the resilience of the cultural and creative sectors is being sorely tested by the fallout from the global pandemic, the new programme should also support the European Commission’s strategies to address the key challenges of our age, including the digital economy, the European Green Deal, the new Bauhaus, and the defense of pluralism and media freedom.
European Lab will unpack the European Commission’s brand new Culture and Media programmes and highlight the opportunities that they present for those involved in the cultural and media sectors.
