To say that Marina Herlop squares the circle between jazz, classical, opera and advanced electronics, actually falls short of describing the astounding talent of this young Catalan artist, who in a relatively short time has created a dense imaginary all her own.
Following two LP’s, 2016’s Nanook and 2018’s Babooshka, that each revealed a little more of the artists’ ambition and creative worldview, her forthcoming LP on PAN, is set to be another high point in an already stellar career. Inspired by theatre, dance, Ukrainian folklore, anime and fantasy, and armed with a hauntingly beautiful voice, Herlop weaves a sonic tapestry that transcends genres and traditional constraints.
